We carefully match participants by age, gender, and interests to create positive living environments where friendships can grow and daily life feels comfortable.
Each Elsy SIL home has a skilled house leader and dedicated staff who take the time to understand your routines, goals, and preferences. You’ll see familiar faces you can trust.
Many of our SIL homes are located close to one another and close to our hub, so participants feel part of a supportive neighbourhood. From learning new skills to enjoying activities together, there’s always something meaningful to do.
Take a short break, recharge, or try out what life in an Elsy home feels like. STA is also a great “trial run” if you’re thinking about SIL in the future.
A comfortable and supported option while you prepare for your long-term living arrangement or wait for your permanent SIL home to become available.
For participants looking beyond SIL, Elsy also supports Independent Living Options (ILO). This flexible arrangement allows you to live more independently with the right level of support around you.
In fact, several Elsy participants have successfully transitioned from SIL to ILO with our help – a big milestone towards independence while staying connected to the Elsy family.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) helps people with disability live in a shared home with support. It’s there for participants who need help every day, including overnight. The funding covers support staff who assist with things like cooking, cleaning, and personal care. It doesn’t cover rent or groceries. How much funding someone gets depends on their needs and who they live with.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) supports are funded through your NDIS plan. At Elsy, we work with you to build a support schedule that suits your needs and matches your funding.
If you’re living in an Elsy home, there are also day-to-day living costs. You’ll pay a board and lodging fee that helps cover rent, food, and household bills. This usually includes:
• Up to 50% of the Disability Support Pension for food and utilities
• Up to 25% of the Disability Support Pension for rent, plus any Commonwealth Rent Assistance.
Your SIL funding covers the cost of support staff who help with your daily living needs in the home. It does not include:
SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) is about the home itself. It’s funding for accessible housing designed for people with very high support needs.
SIL (Supported Independent Living) is separate. It’s funding for the support staff who help you with daily tasks like cooking, showering, and getting ready for the day.
You might have both, but they do different things:
SDA = the home
SIL = the support in the home.
Core Supports and SIL both help with everyday life, but they work a bit differently.
Core Supports are flexible — they help with things like getting to appointments, help around the house, or support in the community. You can use them in lots of different ways and choose when and how they’re used.
SIL (Supported Independent Living) is for people who need ongoing, daily support — including overnight. It’s a more structured service, usually in a shared home, with a regular team of support workers.
